Power and Glory

Psa 63:2

I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.

I would encourage you to read this psalm in it’s entirety.  Either take out your Bible or look up   The first section of this psalm talks about praising God in various ways, with lips, with song, with hands lifted up and through the watches of the night with our thoughts.  What a beautiful thing to do when you can’t sleep.  There are many places to behold the power and glory of God: in a worship service, watching creation, watching some of His other children.  Take time this day to behold His power and glory and praise Him for it.

No Fear

Psa 56:11 in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Fear is only present in us where we have yet to trust God. Nothing can separate us from His love. No man can separate us from God. Therefore, we can choose to trust and choose not to fear. Everything that comes to us must first pass through our Father’s hand. If you have read Job, you may have notice that Satan did not pick Job. God asked Satan if he had noticed Job. Then God set limits on what Satan could do to and around Job. It is so good that God bathes us in His peace. Join Job in saying, Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him

Finding Rest

Psa 62:5

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.

I just experienced two unbelievable days.  I won’t bore you with the details.  Everyone has days like that occasionally.  I found myself praying over and over, “Lord, keep me strong and don’t let me crack.”  It always amazes me how God answers our prayers.  No task was made simple nor were any taken away.  Actually more and more were added as the two days progressed.  What was amazing is God enabled me to maintain His joy, kept my body strong and even gave me the opportunity to witness about Jesus.  Yes, I was tired yet, at the same time energized.  The next day found me rearranging the living room.  My rest is definitely in God and in praising Him.

Our Need to Praise

Psa 59:17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God. So much of the Bible tells us to praise God. There are many forms of praising. Singing is one form. We can speak praise, we can dance praise, we can reach out to others in praise. We can praise God with our finances, with our hands, with our lips. The important thing is that we praise Him. It is not that He need our praises. He does not have an identity problem. We praise Him because we need to praise Him. Praising Him brings joy to our hearts and lifts us up out of depression or fear. Praising Him brings us closer to Him. Think of a new way to praise your God today.

Exalt God

Psa 57:11

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

How is God exalted?  He is exalted through His creation.  We are part of His creation but He has given us a choice.  We are either for Him or against Him.  Do you let your life exalt God:  what you do, what you say?  With His Holy Spirit God allows His glory to shine through us to all the earth.  Are you blocking His glory from shine through you?  We need to learn in all things to praise and exalt God so His glory will shine throughout the earth.

In God I Will Praise

Psa 56:10-11 In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise– in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

This is a repeat of verse 4: “In God will I praise his word. Sometimes, as we walk through life’s trials, we have to tell ourselves, over and over, to praise God in order to build up our trust in Him. We tend to believe what we are most accustomed to hearing and/or seeing. We live in a world of doubt and mistrust. The only way to conteract that is to continually praise God and His Word, Jesus Christ and remind ourselves that God and only God has our days numbered and will filter through His hand all that comes to us.

Casting our Cares

Psa 55:22

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you

What is a care?  It is anything that occupies our mind.  What does cast mean?  It means to toss out or give over.  For God to sustain us, we must give Him all the care of our heart.  We must trust Him with His provision in His way and His time.  Many times His way is different than what we expect and His time is different from our “sense” of timing.  We, as children, are impatient.  I learn a lot about my relationship with God by watching my children, and now my grandchildren in their response to me.  Quite often I find myself saying, “Father, is that how I respond to You?”  Then I seek His forgiveness and ask Him to refill and renew me with His Holy Spirit.

Sustain and Help

Psa 54:4

Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.

What an expression of faith.  David is sure that God sustained him.  If we have accepted God’s Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savor, we can be sure God will help us through this life’s challenges.  As long as we look to Him, He will sustain us.  All we need do is lay our problems before Him.  He answers through scripture and through the inner voice with His Holy Spirit.  Our biggest problem is recognizing His answers.  We to often are diverted by what we think our answers should be.  Always ask Him to help you listen and look with an open mind.  He will surely help and sustain us.

Psa 53:2

God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

We all need to assess ourselves and see where we fall.  Are we among those who seek God?  Do we understand why we should seek Him?  He is looking down and has sent His Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit to knock on the doors of our hearts.  He loves us and desires us to open the door, invite Him in and seek to know Him.  We know Him through His Holy Spirit, through the reading and studying of the scriptures, through prayer and meditation and through sharing with others who know Him.  There is no substitute for God.  Though we might look to material possessions, jobs or other people, we will never be satisfied until we have Him in our hearts.  Open your heart to Jesus, today.

Psa 52:9

I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

What a beautiful thing to look forward to: praising God in the presence of the saints who have gone before us.  But we can begin praising Him forever right now.  Just saying the names of God brings forth a desire to praise Him.  What He has done and continues to do for us is overwhelming.  We cannot phantom the  depth of His love for us.  Speak and sing praises to our God throughout each day.  Today is the beginning of eternity.
