Elizabeth – Old Age

Lk 1:18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this?   I ‘m an old man and my wife is well along in years.

Elizabeth was very old and possible thought there was no more purpose in her life.  In those days it was quite a black mark against a woman who bore no children.  Yet she was a woman, sensitive to God for, when Mary visited her, she knew immediately that Mary carried God’s Son within her womb.

As we age, we sometimes wonder if our usefulness or purpose in life is gone.  Perhaps we have regrets over things we have done or left undone.  It is never to late to confess our failures and omissions to God for His forgiveness.  Nor is it every too late to be used by God.  Our main purpose in life is to have fellowship with God.  As we age, it seems easier to find the time for a more consistent prayer life.

I have a friend who is 108 years old.  Several years ago she shared with me, “A day wasted is a day I don’t learn something new about my Lord and Savior.”  What a beautiful attitude.  There is no end to our ability to learn more about our Lord and Savior each day of our lives on this earth.
