Orpah

Ru 1:14 At this they wept again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-by, but Ruth clung to her.

Orpah did the logical thing.  She followed the advice of an elder and went to what was secure in her past.  We don’t know what kind of life she had when she returned home.  We do know what kind of life Ruth had by looking to God for her security instead of what had worked in the past.  Ruth became part of the human linage of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, God’s own Son.

So often we look to things of the past for our security – too afraid to let go of what has worked for us before.  We need to follow Ruth’s example and look to God.  It may be something really new to us; Ruth had to move to a foreign land with no promises for a secure future.  To grow spiritually, we must stretch our trust and faith.  If we ask God for directions for each thing we encounter, we can be assured of His provision for anything we face in the path He chooses for us to walk.
