Jdg 4:4 Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time.

I’m not sure why so many people think it is unusual for a woman to be a leader, even of a nation.  Not only are there queens in past history, but also as long ago as the Old Testament women have taken a prominent part in leadership.  Read the book of Judges.  Deborah was one of many female prophets recorded in the Bible.  She was also a judge.  In those days, a judge was the same as a king, ruler and leader of a nation.  Deborah settled disputes between men, guided the nation and even led the army into battle with successful outcomes.  The issue is not the gender.  The issue is hearing God, obeying God and following through with God.  Be sure to pay attention to the fifth chapter of Judges to get a better picture of Deborah’s heart.  If you are female, remember that through God all things are possible.  If you are a male, remember that it is God who raises leaders and we are to pray for and support the leaders God gives us.
