Walk as He Walked

1 John 2:6 So to walk even as He walked.

In order for us to even try to walk in the way Jesus walked on this earth, we must know how He walked. We must study the Scriptures and put them deep in our minds and hearts. Some of the things Jesus did: He ate with the tax collector who was deceptive and selfish and considered an outcast by his own people He allowed prostitutes to be included in his inner group He cared for all people, feeding them, healing them with no strings or expectations attached. He did not defend himself when people accused him falsely He did not react when people made fun of him He set his eyes on his purpose but allowed interruptions with grace and love. The list could go on and on, but, if you are like me, you already feel far too short of your goal to walk like our Lord. Jesus is glorified through the way we walk. Let us all seek him and prayer, confess our commissions and omissions and ask his Holy Spirit to enable us to walk in his way.

Turn Again

Lamentations 3:40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord.

What an appropriate scripture for the beginning of a new year. It is good to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us ways that separate us from God. It is so easy for things to creep into our lives that separate us from His perfect will for us. These are areas in our lives we must turn away from and turn again to the Lord. These little areas catch us by surprise. They are not necessarily bad things, but they are things that keep us from doing His will for us. Take some time for a spiritual check-up. Your life will be greatly enriched when you do.

Soar Like Eagles

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

This verse of scripture has been quoted innumerable times in our church in the last 2 weeks. Just like a baby eaglet, we must learn to mount up and soar like the mature eagles do. Their wings are very strong and they have learned to soar on the winds. Our wind is the Holy Spirit. If we stay immersed in His Spirit we can soar through all of life. We must be well grounded in scripture to know how to let God’s Spirit stay within us and empower us to soar. When we are full of His Spirit and walking in His ways, we will “wait” on Him. The word “wait” is the same as our word “waiter” which means to serve. As we serve Him in the way and with the power He gives, we will walk constantly without fainting. Our walk will not weary us. Where we are weary we must look to see if we are trying to accomplish something for our own glory or by our own might. Let’s really keep our focus on God and His Word and stay in the power of His Holy Spirit in 2010

New Year

Phl 3:13-14   Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but [this] one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus

Today is the first day of a new year.  Hopefully you reflected on the past year yesterday.  Today is a day to take the advice offered in Philippians.  The past is past.  Ask God for forgiveness of the wrong things done and the right things left undone.  Accept His forgiveness and forgive yourself.  Forgive all those who have caused you hurt or pain and ask God to forgive them.  Then, put all that behind you along with your accomplishments of the old year.  It is time to press on toward the new.  Ask God to direct you.  Be open to new things from Him – new ministries, new talents, new adventures, new mountains and new valleys.  Change can be frightening only when we forget Who is the Author and Finisher of our lives.  Walk into the new knowing nothing can touch us without first passing through our Father’s hand.  Have a blessed and Christ centered 2010.
