Old Things Become New

Eph 4:22-24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;  to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness

Sometimes it seems I battle the same problem over and over.  One time, as I was asking God, “Why this again?” I quit my tantrum long enough to hear Him.  His answer, “You do not hate it enough.”  I thought I hated my problem but what I hated was only the results of my problem.  God showed me a big difference between hating results (or consequences) and hating the problem for itself.

How do I get to the point of really hating the problem?  God allows me to live in it and with it bearing the consequences over and over until my hate for the consequences becomes enough to hear Him about the root cause of the problem.  Whether the root of the problem was heredity, a hurt in the past or a sinful trap into which I fell, I must walk with God through a process in dealing with the root.  I have broken the process into steps.

1.                  Really hate the results of the problem.

2.                  Recognize and admit the results are not the problem.

3.                  Recognize and admit the problem.

4.                  Recognize and admit the root cause of the problem.

5.                  Be willing to hate the problem to the degree that you det3est it as being in anyway a part of you (This takes time.)

6.                  Let Jesus walk into the cause of the problem.

7.                  Receive healing and forgiveness from God

8.                  Forgive and pray for healing for any others who might have been involved.

9.                  Pray for a renewed mind.

10.              With the help of friends, learn to change our responses to situations in the old problem areas.

As I walk these out, I find the old habit occurs less frequently until the old nature had died in that area and the new nature (Christ’s nature) has been set free.
