Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.

Look around in your church or anywhere.  It is getting harder and harder to find people who practice the fruit of self-control.  We tend to have excuses for eating large orders of French fries.  Look at the pates at a church supper, piled high with food.  It is so easy to come up with excuses to eat more than we need and things we that don’t promote good health.  Sin is sin.  Gluttony is gluttony.  We are not being forced to make wrong decisions in our food choices; we choose them.  We hide from ourselves that we are not being obedient to God.  We deceive ourselves into thinking we put God first in our lives when in actuality we put our own fleshly desires first.  The average Christian today is a poor witness to the world.  Fruit grows by use.  It is up to us to choose to practice self-control.  As we practice it, that fruit will grow (and many of us will shrink).  It is not a matter of looking good but of being healthy.  Our body is a temple of God, which houses His Holy Spirit.  A body in poor health impedes the flow of His Holy Spirit.  Let’s all choose to get with it.  Let’s put God first in all things, including in what, when and how much we eat.
