Eagle Wings

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Many think waiting upon the Lord means to sit around and do nothing.  There are two forms of the word “wait.”  One means to bide one’s time and the other means to serve.  Waiting on the Lord means serving Him.  When we serve him we are able to mount over worldly problems with the strength of eagle wings.  Eagle wings are strong and able to take the bird to great heights quickly.  For many years I lived across from Jamie Buckingham.  He was the ghostwriter for “Tramp for the Lord,” a book about Corrie Ten Boon.  She was in her late 80’s when she flew from California to Florida to meet with him.  When she got to his home she was very tired.  She went to her room to rest and he made a pot of coffee.  As he poured his cup she appeared in the kitchen door.  He said he thought she was tired and needed to rest.  She said she did rest, but when you rest in the Lord it doesn’t take long to recover.  That has stayed with me for many years.  I may tire when the Lord works through me but it doesn’t take long to be ready to soar with Him again.
