Habits

Ro 7:19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.

They say it takes only a week to develop a habit but it take a couple months to break one.  God deals with our bad habits.  The first step is to recognize a habit as bad – one that hampers the flow of God’s Holy Spirit through us.  Then we must recognize when we are doing it.  At first we don’t realize it until after it is done.  Gradually we realized it as we do it.  Stopping it is a little harder.  First we learn to ask forgiveness after we have done it.  Then we learn to stop it shortly after we start it, confessing to God and asking for strength not to do it.  Gradually we can spot it just before we are about to do it.  Eventually it will become part of our past that is buried under the blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Sometimes it is humbling in front of others as we learn to stop our bad habit.  Mostly it is frustrating to us just as Paul was frustrated in this chapter of Romans.  But Paul ends in praise and that is our ending also.
