Mary and Elizabeth

Lk 1:41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Some downplay this saying it was the first time Elizabeth felt the movement of her baby.  However, the Word says the baby “leaped” in her womb.  That is entirely different from a baby’s first movements, which are gently felt.  It also says Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit when she saw Mary.  No one told her Mary was pregnant.  Mary didn’t show yet.  It was purely a “word of knowledge” through God’s Holly Spirit that Elizabeth knew, not only was Mary pregnant, but she was pregnant with the promised Messiah, the Christ, God’s only Son.  Just in case you don’t have time to take out your Bible and read Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary, her it is as quoted from the Gospel of Luke.

The Holy Bible, New International Version. Pradis CD-ROM:Lk 1:42.

Lk 1:42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!

Lk 1:43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

Lk 1:44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

Lk 1:45 Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!”

Why did Elizabeth think Mary was blessed?  Because Mary believed the word of the Lord would be accomplished.  God’s Word is full of promises to us and for us.  Where are we in our belief?  What promises are we having trouble believing?  Let is meditate on this today.
