Let Your Light Shine

Mt 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Watching the Egyptians stand against a dictator and seeing their success made me think about today’s Christians who live in countries where we are free to worship as we please.  We have become so accustom of our freedom that we take it for granted.  There are many dangers in doing this.  We, as humans, tend to value things by how hard it is to attain them.  Because of this trait we allow our light, as Christians, to grow dim.  We blend in with the culture around us and act no different than those who are not Christians.  In countries where there is no freedom, where Christians aren’t allowed, they let the light of God shine through them even though it could mean imprisonment, torture or death.  We must continually watch out for our freedom and make sure our light shines and our voices are heard.  We’ve already lost the rights to put up nativity scenes, crosses, the Ten Commandments and other Christian icons in many areas of our country.  We’ve lost the right to pray out loud in schools and other places.  Some areas we’ve lost the right to assemble in a public park join hands and pray.  We must each check to see how our light is shining before men.  What do they see when they watch us?
