The Lord’s Prayer 3

Mt 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

“Hallowed” is an old English word for “holy”.  Before Jesus actually walked this earth in the form of a man, the believers in God, the Creator, thought His name to be so holy they could not speak it nor write it.  They would leave all the vowels out to make it unpronounceable.  When Moses asked God for His name, God simply replied, “I AM” showing He has always, is always and will be always.  Holy words are something we take pretty carelessly today.  So many people use God’s name for all sorts of things, yet, when someone uses some other person’s name in the way many use the name, “God”, they get quite mad.  People are taken to court and sued over the use of a name.  God is holy and any name used to refer to God should be and is holy.  Just saying, “Father, God” is a prayer by itself.  Throughout the day, listen to yourself and to others in the use of names.  If you’re saying, “Oh, my God” are you talking to Him or have you gotten into the habit of using His name to express surprise or shock?  Today is a good day to check out the use of the name, “God.”  Not only how we use His name but also how others use it.  When I hear others misuse His name I says a quick prayer in my heart for them that they will know Who’s name it is they are using.  Have a beautiful, God centered day.
