The Lord’s Prayer 7

Mt 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

Mt 6:10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Mt 6:11 Give us today our daily bread.

This is the first place in the prayer Jesus taught us when we ask for something for ourselves.  We are asking for daily bread.  This not only includes the food we need for our physical bodies.  Jesus said we couldn’t live by bread alone but by His Spirit.  We need the daily bread of God’s written word in our daily life.  It is readily available to us but we are also asking for Him to give us understanding and to help us digest it and make it part of our daily lives.  So often we start our prayers with “give me” or “I need this” but Jesus said there are other things we are to pray first (see previous days devotions).  Let us be sure to eat not only the physical food He blesses us with but also the spiritual food that enables His fruits to grown in us.
