All Things

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He seeth the Father doing: for what things soever He doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner. For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth Him all things that Himself doeth: and greater works than these will He show Him, that ye may marvel.”—John 5:19, 20.

My goodness, Jesus was without sin and had all power yet He said He could do nothing of Himself.  He could only do what He sees God the Father doing.  And yet here we are, sinful people, thinking we have all the knowledge and wisdom and power we need to do anything we want.  When you stop to think about it, we can’t even take our next breath except for the grace of God.  He has said He has our days numbered.  We continually fool ourselves when we think we can do anything ourselves and leave God out of the mix.  There is nothing we can do without Him.  That means, as scripture says, pray without ceasing.  Pray over all our plans, actions and words.  Before I really met Jesus personally a young man came into our Sunday School class and said among other things that he didn’t buy a pair of shoes without asking God if he should, which ones and how much he should pay for them.  I thought that was really off the wall then but now I am in 100% agreement.  There are many things God has told us to do that we don’t need to keep re-asking about.  We just need to follow through in obedience.  Let’s put all self pride aside, we really have nothing of ourselves to be prideful about, and humble ourselves before the Lord our God and letting Him direct all our thoughts, words and actions.  Our goal is to move into oneness with Him.
