Mt 5:15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Think about light.  Why do we use it?  We use it to see.  We want to see what is safe, what might be in our way, what is dirty and needs to be cleaned or gotten rid of, what is clean and good and ready for use, etc.  God tells us we are to be lamps.  We are to demonstrate what is good and ready for use – use by God in helping His Kingdom to come to earth.  We also are to alert to what is dirty – evil and not of God.  We don’t always want to be lights.  Sometimes it is because we know others won’t see the likeness of God in us.  Sometimes it is because we don’t want to risk offending others.  We seem to seek the approval of fellow man rather than the approval of God.  We need to take regular time to reflect and check our lamp – is it clean and allowing God’s light to shine, are we allowing it to shine everywhere we go and are we open and honest in what the light shines on?   I like the child’s song, “This Little Light of Mine, I’m going to let it shine…Won’t let Satan blow it out….Let it shine ’til Jesus comes,” and many other verses.  Ask yourself: is my light shining?  What is it shining on?  What do I see?  What do others see?  What does God see?  May our lights shine to reflect the love and glory of God through Jesus Christ.
