Resting

Matthew 11:28 Come to me,all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

What do you do when you are too tired to care?  You are too tired to care about those you love.  You are too tired to care how you feel or what happens to you.  You are too tired to continue the struggle.  It even seems you are too tired to care about God.

You need to rest in God’s love.  You can give up actively caring without totally giving up but you cannot do it in your own strength.  You do not have any strength.  In Zechariah 4:6b we read, “Not by might nor by power, but by My spirit says the Lord of host.” (NAS)

Human nature strives for self-dependence.  Even when you want to let go and let God, all within your mortal flesh seems to fight to hold on.  How do you let go?  How do you find the strength to rest when you are so tired?

Human will is an amazing thing.  It can keep you from the very thing you desire.  When combined with the Holy Spirit it can bring the desires God has placed within you to fruition.  Tell God how you feel and allow Him to bathe you in His peace and love.  Allow God to use your imagination.  Picture a meadow and allow His Spirit to take you there.  Let your body relax as your loving Father uses your imagination to show you how He cares for you.

If you are willing, God will bring you to Isaiah 26:3, “you will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trust in You.” (NIV).  After this time of rest you will once again be able to care and take up your active part.
