Denominationalism

“This people draws near to me with their mouth and honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. But they serve me in vain because they teach teachings that are nothing but the commandments of men” (Matt. 15:8–9).

Only God knows the real condition of our hearts – the center of our being.  We need to be open to His Holy Spirit to reveal to us areas where we have not allowed His light to penetrate.  There are areas where we may be serving Him in vain because we have not allowed Him into that area or we have altered His word to our comfort and put that interpretation on to others.  In whatever we do in word or deed we are to do it in the name of the Lord.  But doing it in His name does not mean our heart is right.  There is a danger in denominationalisms.  That danger is in putting the extra commands we have made in a denomination onto all Christians.  We want everyone to believe and act as we do because that makes us feel better about ourselves.  Let us be sure we, ourselves, draw near to God in love and leave requirements of others to Him.  We are to share His love and light the way to God through Jesus Christ.  The Holy Spirit will do the inner working in each of us.
