Giving Our Best

Dt 15:10 Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to

We are entering into a very busy time of year.  It is also a giving time of year.  Our church is at work making up Thanksgiving baskets for families in the community who are in need.  Many of us have been asked to donate a turkey along with the can food and boxed food we signed up to donate.  Being made aware of needs reminds me of a friend of mine.  A family had their house and all their possessions burn and she was part of the group asked to donate household items.  She opened her linen closet, move a set of new sheets out of the way and proceeded to grab a used set.  Then she heard the quiet voice of God’s Holy Spirit.  “I’m not worth the best you have to give?  I gave you My best.”  She put back the used sheets and gave the new ones.  So often we give only of our excess or the things we no longer want.   I’m so glad God gave us of His best.  There is no way I can ever give enough.  God did not give grudgingly.  He gave out of love.  As we go through this giving season (and on into the next year) let us be sure we give generously out of our love for God and for His children.  Let it not be a time of cleaning out what we don’t want but sharing what we cherish with others.
