Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ c will enter the kingdom of heaven, d but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven (New International Version)

I appreciate comments but don’t post them so those commenting have a choice of privacy. There was a question on the post-entitled “Advent 24.” The question was, “How do I do that?” Since the subject was making Jesus Lord of our lives I assume that is what the questioner was asking. To make Jesus Lord of our lives we must first believe He is the only begotten Son of God and came down both as fully God and as fully man in the form of a baby to grow and experience all we experience. We must believe He died on the cross for all of our sins and that He physically rose from the dead so we could have eternal life in His very presence. After belief comes accepting the belief and confessing we are sinners and receiving His forgiveness for our sins. Then we ask Him into our hearts and minds, ask Him to fill us with His Holy Spirit and ask Him to be the Lord – the director – the ruler of our lives. We may not feel anything on an emotional level for faith is not an emotion. Faith is the train engine that leads the way. Emotions are the caboose that follows along at the end of the train. Some trains are longer than others. Do not be concerned about feelings. Feelings will eventually fall into place. It is our will to believe and accept and trust God to bring all into proper relationships. After doing this we must spend time in prayer with Him, which means listening as well as talking. It takes time to learn to recognize His voice within us and I find writing a journal helps. Write your prayers and write what comes into your mind after. Eventually you will hear and recognize. It is also important to become familiar with the Holy Bible – the Manufacturers Instruction Book. Go to a store or on the Internet and look at the same verses in several translations and pick the one that speaks to you the best. My prayers are with you as you seek to make Jesus Lord of your life.

No Regrets

Phil 3:13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

Part of confessing and cleaning the old is forgiving ourselves, giving up regrets for what we’ve done, said or haven’t done or said and pushing on to what God has ahead for us. So many of us live with regrets. We think often on we should have or shouldn’t have. This puts an unneeded weight on our minds, emotions and spirit. We cannot change the past. What is past is over. We must learn to accept it is over, we have confessed to God, He has forgiven us and no longer holds it against us, we have accepted His forgiveness, we forgive ourselves, we have made atonement if it is possible and we shut the door and move forward. We think it is a sign of humility to bemoan how sinful we have been. It is an affront to God. He says we are wonderfully made. He deemed us worthwhile to sacrifice His Son, Jesus as the atonement for our sins of commission and the ones of lack of commission. We need to accept what God has, is doing and will continue to do for us and turn from our lacks in the past, praise for our past blessings and push forward with whatever God has for us. As we approach the new year let us finish our emotional and spiritual house cleaning so we are free to push ahead in love, joy, peace and confidence with our God, our Father, our Creator and allow His Light to shine through us into this dark world.
