Our Choice

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

This is a command not to worry about tomorrow. It is not a suggestion. It starts with the word “therefore.” Because of that word we must know what Jesus said preceding this command. In verse 33 He tells us to seek first – before all else – His Kingdom and His righteousness. He gives a promise to us if we seek His Kingdom and righteousness. He tells us all these things will be added or given to us. What things? All the things we need to live our lives. Since He promises to meet all our needs if we seek Him before all things what is stopping us? Do we really believe God? Do we really believe He is true to His word to us? Belief and trust are choices. We can choose to trust and we can choose not to trust. We can choose to be worried about things we cannot control (what happens next) or we can choose not to worry. We can choose to seek God above all things or we can choose to seek worldly things. What we cannot do is blame anyone else for our choices. Whenever we start to feel anxious or worried about something we have a choice of where we will put our thoughts. Tomorrow we will look at that. Today we have a choice to make—trust what God says or not. What is your choice?
