Think On These Things

Phil 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Paul tells us very plainly what we are to think about. When thinking about what is true (God loves us and has promised to meet all our needs), whatever is noble (God is true to His word), whatever is right (God is always right), whatever is pure (God is without sin), whatever is lovely (there is nothing lovelier than the love of God), whatever is admirable (the works of God are the most admirable) and what is excellent or praiseworthy (God is excellent and is definitely worthy to be praised.). These are the things we are to allow our mind to dwell on. We have the power to choose what thoughts we will allow to stay in our mind and what thoughts we will push out. We can push out negative thoughts with praise to God. It is hard to praise and be negative at the same time. We can push out negative thoughts by thanking God for all He has already given us. Instead of looking at what we don’t have or what we might not get lets look at what we do have and what God has already given us. He has given us forgiveness for our sins. He has given us eternal life. He has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to guide us, comfort us and intercede for us. What more can we ask for? Let us relax and trust God. God holds all our tomorrows in His hand. Tomorrow we look at His hand.
