Luke 11:17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

The church leaders were accusing Jesus of using the power of Satan. This scripture has an even broader meaning. Any division within ourselves blocks the power of God’s Holy Spirit within us. When we turn our thoughts primarily to our material world, when we seek power for ourselves or riches, we are not looking to God. There are many areas within each of us that are divided. Part of us wants God’s perfect will within our live. Part of us want to obey and serve Him. Then there is the other part of us that wants our comfort, pleasure and a myriad of other things of the world. What are we to do when we find ourselves divided? We confess our divisive thoughts to God, ask for His forgiveness, accept His forgiveness, forgive ourselves and ask God to refresh us with the power of His Holy Spirit to enable us to be single minded and single purposed. This is not to say we turn our backs on our material world. We put it in its proper place. We put God first. We seek God first. Through seeking Him first our lives come into proper order and we find we have time and energy for all He calls us to – even material things He entrusts us with. God plans to establish His Kingdom on this earth. He does not want us to turn our backs on it but to bring His glory and power to it. Our question is are we willing to ask Him to show us areas within ourselves were we are divided?
