Bear Fruit

Luke 13:5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Jesus was very emphatic about repentance. He went on to talk about the fig tree that bore no fruit. Unless it bears fruit it is useless and uprooted to perish. We are also to bear fruit. Unless we first repent we cannot bear fruit. Repentance is a daily (and often multiple daily) necessity. I know there are many times during a day I say or do the wrong thing or omit saying or doing the wrong thing. This needs my acknowledgement and repentance each and every time. After repenting we make room for God’s Holy Spirit to grow fruit within us.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23). As we allow this fruit to grow in us we are to help others to desire to grow this fruit. We have several questions we must each answer: are we repenting (admitting our disobedience and asking forgiveness), are we willing to allow God to grow His fruit in us and are we working with Him to bring others to the desire to allow Him to grow fruit in them? Let us choose not to be like a barren fig tree. Let us choose to bloom and bear fruit.
