Preparation

Luke 22:8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Jesus sent Peter and John to prepare for the Passover celebration. They were unaware this would be their last meal with Jesus. They were unaware He would be taken away by one of their own and scourged and nailed to the cross. They got caught up in the celebration and could not see the signs of increasing aggression. Their minds were still filled with the celebration of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Our minds, too, are filled with many things. As we look toward tomorrow (what we call Good Friday) we are thinking of shopping for new Easter outfits, eggs and candy. Some are busy preparing for guests. Not many churches have a service on Thursday to prepare for Friday. Not many churches have services on Good Friday. Even few people attend. We are too busy doing things that will quickly be forgotten. Our question is are we searching our hearts and lives for the things that separate us from God? Are we allowing ourselves to realize what He did for us? Are we admitting we did not, do not and never will deserve such love and grace and mercy? Let us take time today to realize who we really are without God’s Holy Spirit in us. Let us prepare today for confession tomorrow and a determination to turn our backs on our carnal attitudes and get our priorities, God’s priorities, in order in our hearts, minds and lives.
