Proverbs 19:2 It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

I’ve been substituting this week for the band teacher in our local high school. The last period of the day only has 3 students: one flute and 2 trombones. They come in with zeal, pick up their instruments and each start playing their own thing. They did not take time to confer on what music they were going to practice. What resulted was pure noise. I waited to see how long it would take before they realized what they were doing. After a few minutes the one playing the flute stopped and listened. Then she went over to the two playing the trumpet, each doing their own thing, and suggested they all use the same music and start together at the same tie. Before long there was beautiful, harmonic music. This is so true in many of our churches and other groups. We are each attuned to our own tasks, desires and ideas and fail to listen to others. Our question is are we willing to lay our own ways aside and come into harmony with those around us? This is most important in prayer. Prayer is a strong missile but is made even stronger when we come together. As we enter into the election season in the United States, let us come together to pray for our nation. It was founded on the laws of God and is in danger of departing.
