Strength

Psalms 73:25-26 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart l may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

When we find ourselves weary, tired, and discouraged or we think we’re failing it means we are looking to ourselves as our source of strength, power, wisdom and accomplishment. When my body gets tired I remember what Corrie Ten Boon said to our friend and neighbor Jamie Buckingham. He had just picked her up from the airport after she flew from California to Florida. When they arrive at his house – a 2-hour drive from the airport – she admitted she was tired and went upstairs to rest while Jamie and his wife made some coffee. Before the coffee was ready Corrie came back downstairs. Jamie asked, “I thought you were tired and were going to take a rest?” Corrie responded, “When you rest in the Lord it doesn’t take long.” What beautiful wisdom. When life gets us or our bodies down we need to look to God and rest in Him. There is no one or nothing else that can supply us with whatever we need. In and of ourselves we have no strength but through God we can do all things. Our question is where are we looking?
