1Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. . It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. . Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Love is not self-seeking. We are in a society that is self-seeking. I want what I want when I want it and it doesn’t matter how it affects others. You say that’s not you? We really need to be deeply honest with ourselves. We all have the tendency to take care of “numeral uno.’ We do it to different degrees but we all do it. We see this at church dinners, the ones who get in line first to pick the choicest foods before they run out or get the deserts even before the lines start. We see it in trying to get the best seat at a concert or theater (or even church). Self-seeking often shows up in our rudeness, our pride, our envy, our lack of kindness and our lack of patience. We fear there won’t be enough of whatever we want for us so we want to make sure we get our “fair share.” Our question is do we really believe God will supply all our needs? Are our own wants and/or desires so much more important than those of others? Once again, we alone are responsible for the choices we make.
