John 17:20-21 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Love is the embodiment of two souls into one. Jesus and God are One. Jesus prayed that we would be one in Him and in each other. Our concept of love is self-gratification and self-fulfillment. In our conception of love there is always a “what’s in it for me” attitude. As sinful beings we are incapable of loving purely. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, minds and lives He dwells in us in the form of His Holy Spirit. As we allow His Holy Spirit to become one with us and us one with Him we gradually learn to love: love for God, love for ourselves and love for our fellow man. The question is are we willing to learn to give way to God’s perfect love or choose our own self-seeking, self- gratifying love? As with all things the choice is ours. On our own efforts this desire to be and love as one is impossible. Sin of self will always stand in our way. With our choice of giving God’s Holy Spirit the power to rule in us we will gradually give way to God’s calling of Oneness in Love.
