John 3:16-18 For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

Our oldest daughter was 11.  She and her sister accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior shortly after my husband and I did.   They were baptised in our swimming pool.  A few months later she told a playmate across the street the girl was not a christian. The girl told it to her mother who was levied and came over screaming at me.  I asked the mother what a christian is.  She replied “a white, gentile American who iives a good moral life.”  I explained to her about Jesus and asked if she believed He is the only Son of God who came to earth in the form of a baby, grew and lived among us without sin, died on the cross for our sins and rose in 3 days to give us eternal life in the presence of God the Father.   She said no and then I said she is a good, white, gentile American who tries to live a good moral life but she is not a follower of Jesus Christ therefor is not a Christian.  We have people in our churches who believe salvation is through acting “good.”  Our problem is we cannot be good enough.  God said the only way to establish a relationship with Him. the only way to be adopted into His family as His child is through Jesus, His only begotton (not a created being as we are) Son.  There is nothing we can do to earn our way into His Presence.  It is a gift of grace and love.  Our question is are we a church member who tries to act the good we perceive we should be or are we a child of God through His Son Jesus and know that we are just a bunch of sinners saved by God’s grace?  If we are really God’s children we wll not turn that blessing on and off according to where we are and who we’re with.  We will be consistent in our reoationship with the Father and the Son.  Are we consistent?
