Luke 24:32 They said to each other, “Didnt our hearts burn within us while he was speaking with us on the road, while he was explaining the scriptures to us?”

Luke is not referring to heart burn but to a burning heart.  A heart that is warmed and stirred.  Sometimes I refer to the Holy Bible as God’s love letter to mankind.  It warms my heart when I read of His love for me.  It warms my heart to read He will never leave me.  My heart is also warmed when I am with others who know and speak of God.  We can read the Bible without our heart being warmed.  We can be with other believers and speak of God without our hearts being warmed.  Our hearts can only be warmed if we have allowed God’s Holy Spirit to dwell within us.  Our hearts are warmed if we truly desire to be in His presence.  The two on Emmaus Road were not expecting Jesus to be with them.  They did not recognize Him  because they did not believe He was really alive.  Because they did not believe the did not recognize their hearts were burning.  Our question is do we want our hearts to burn for God, to burn for the realization of His very presence?  We can have a burning heart when we give ourselves over to Him.  When our relationship with God through Jesus is our first desire and we truly seek Him with all our heart, our mind and strength we will find our heart burns more and more for fellowship with Him.  There is a chorus that goes, “Give me fire in my heart, keep me burning.  Give me fire in my heart I pray….”  Let us choose to ask Him for that fire in our hearts through the power of His Holy Spirit.
