One Thing Lacking

Luke 18:22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

If you’ve read the Bible you would find Jesus did not give these instructions to everyone who wanted  salvation or wanted to follow Him.  He specifically gave them to this one man.  Jesus knew where this man’s heart was.  He knew what was most important in this man’s life.  This man’s life revolved around his own riches.  Being rich was his priority.  What Jesus is asking of each of us is to make Him and His will the most important thing in our lives.  He tells us we are to put Him before everything and everyone else.  This does not mean we don’t work at a job to earn money to support ourselves and our families.  This doesn’t mean we are to turn our backs on our families and go to some deserted place to live to be alone with God.  This means we are to put Him first, to let Him show us what to do when and where as we continue to support our families and be with them while we are loving, worshiping and obeying our God.  When we put God first in what we do and who we are all other relationships and life tasks fall into order.  God gives His children wisdom, love, patience and all the other fruits of His Holy Spirit listed in the book of Galatians.  There is no greater richness than the love and provision of God.  We have a choice.  We can be like that rich man and turn our backs on God or we can trust the love of God and put Him first in all we do.  He has promised unfailing love and provision.  He has promised eternal life with Him.  He has promised a full and abundant life on this earth when we follow His instructions.  I can attest to all this.  Riches on this earth from this earth can be lost in a  second.  God in us can never be lost.  What do you have to lose?  What do you choose?
