Romans 2:13  For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous before God, but those who do the law will be declared righteous.

As citizens of any country we must obey the laws of that country.  We who have received Jesus into our hearts and lives are first citizens of heaven and must obey the laws of God over and above the laws of earth.  That doesn’t mean we don’t obey the laws of earth unless they are in conflict with the laws of God.  To obey the laws of God we must know the laws of God.  We are blessed to have the laws of God recorded for us in the Holy Bible.  Jesus said they could be summarized by the first 2 commandments given by God to Moses:  (Matthew 22:37-39) Jesus said to him, “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”  Our question is do we really believe and obey?  Doing this is impossible in and of ourselves.  It takes the presence of God’s Holy Spirit within us to love God, others and ourselves in this way.  My prayer for all of us as we approach the Advent season is for each of us to let more and more of His Holy Spirit to flow in and through us.
