Showing and Teaching

Psalms 25:9. May he show the humble what is right!  May he teach the humble his way!

God will show us what is right and will teach us His way but there is a condition we must make.  We must be humble.  Pride is against seeing from another’s perspective.  Pride is against learning another’s ways.  A prideful person only values their own outlook and knowledge.  We must be humble to see and learn what God would show and teach us.  We cannot choose the methods He chooses us to see or learn.  God may choose to use an illiterate person to teach a PhD holder something.  He might use someone we don’t know or relate with to show us something He wants us to see.  Our question is do we choose to be open to any means or person God chooses to show us something or to teach us more of His way?

Hearing God

Romans 8:5-6 For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit. For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace,

Many times we wonder why we don’t hear God.  Most of us have selective hearing.  We hear what we want.  We choose to not hear what might interfere with our own selfish desires.  Paul writes to us our outlook shapes how we live.  Hoe we live shapes what we hear.  If we are living for ourselves, for what we want and/or for success be the world’s standards we will hear what the world and it’s greed and self-center ness says.  If we live for God’s purpose and glory we will hear what He says to us.  All Christians walk in and out through these two realms. We can see where we are living by our hearing.  When we are not hearing God we must check our current desires.  When we put them in line we will hear God.  Our question is do we want to hear Him or go our own way.  The choice is ours.

Space

Revelation 3:20. Listen! I am standing at the door and knocking! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come into his home and share a meal with him, and he with me.

God gives us space.  He stands outside of the door of our hearts and knocks.  The door has no knob on the outside.  He will not force it open.  He waits patiently for us to let Him in.  Where are we?  We might be in the playroom trying to live with constant entertainment.  We have so much noise around us we can’t hear Him knock.  We might be in the back office concentrating on how we can become monetarily rich.  We might be in the kitchen trying to make food substitute for our hurts or loneliness.  We might be in the bathroom trying to make ourselves clean.  None of these places will fill the hurts or loneliness nor can we ever clean ourselves up enough to stand in the presence of God.  The only way we can unlock the door to the presence of God is taking the key of Jesus Christ, God’s Word and only Son Who came as a humble baby, experienced all we must experience on this earth, stretched out His arms on a cross to take our filth away in forgiveness and rose from death to give us eternal life with God.  That life starts the moment we accept the Key and open the door of our hearts, minds and lives.  Our question is will we accept the Key to forgiveness and eternal life with God?  There is no other way.  I pray you don’t let the new year start without God inside your door

Tired

Isaiah 40:29. He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.

After the excitement, business and celebration of Christmas many are tired.  Energy comes from excitement anticipation.  After what we’ve been waiting and looking forward to the excitement and anticipation fade away.  Sometimes we feel we can go no more.  Nut God says He gives us strength and power.  he renews our energy.  He accomplishes this as we look to Him.  We still can be excited with anticipation as we look forward to the second coming of God’s Son, Jesus.  We become energized when we open ourselves to His love and out of love serve Him.  When we feel let down He will lift us up.  When we feel discouraged He will encourage us through His Word.  Our question is do we warn to look to Him for our renewal of excitement and energy?  He wants to continually work within us.  He promises us He will renew is every morning.  Let us determine to choose to look to Him every morning for His love and power and energy to face whatever He allows to come our way that day.

Giving

Luke 6:38. Give, and it will be given to you: A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over,  will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use will be the measure you receive.”

Maybe we’re thinking “I did or gave such and such to them but they didn’t do or give anything to me.”  Ever have those thoughts?  We all have at some time or other.  Our question is are we willing to forget what we have done or given to others and remember what others have done or given us?  It may not be the same others we have given to but what counts is the passing on of the giving.  God continually gives to us.  How can we do less for His other children.  For the world the giving season is over.  Food pantries will become empty again, the hungry will not eat.  Let us remember to carry the Christmas spirit of giving with us each and everyday.

Day After

Hebrews 13:5. Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “ I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

It’s the day after the big celebration.  The mess is cleared up,  Perhaps the family is gone.  There may be some disappointment because some didn’t get the material gift they wanted.  Our question is did we celebrate the love of Christmas or was it the love of the material?  God tells us to be content with what we have because what we most need, what is most precious, His love, will never leave us.  We were created to be in fellowship with God; to love and to be loved.  We just celebrated the first arrival in human form of God’s Word, His Son, Jesus, to this earth in a way we could see and relate with.  Now we look forward to His coming back to this earth to take us Home with Him.  The word “wait” has two meanings.  One meaning is to stay, remain or keep until something happens. The other meaning means to serve as a waiter or waitress serves.  This is the wait we must do as we await His return.  We are to serve Him through passing on His love to others and showing them the way into fellowship with God through Christ Jesus.  We have less than a week until a new year.  This is a good time to reflect on how we spent the last year and what changes we must make to be in obedience and fellowship with God for the next year.  Let us open our hearts, minds and ears to Him.

Christmas Day

Luke 2:14  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people with whom he is pleased!”

A joyful and blessed Christmas to each of you.  May this day be full of the love of family and the joy of exchanging gifts.  But most important may this day be full of you and your family giving praises and glory to God for His most precious gift to each and every person.  It is His peace He gives and in order to have His peace we must be at peace with all others.  Our question is do we live with others in an attitude of forgiveness and acceptance that gives to peace among us?  Let us be sure to take in God’s peace within ourselves and pass it on to others.  Have a Christ-filled, peaceful celebration of the coming of our Lord and King, Jesus.

Christmas Eve

Luke 2:7. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

We don’t know how long Mary was in labor with Jesus.  We don’t know exactly when she gave birth to Him.  The same is true for His coming again for His Bride, the Church oh believers.  As with giving birth we can only know the signs of the approaching time.  As we celebrate this Christmas Eve let us be mindful of the signs of His coming again.  Let’s be sure He will find us working as harvesters for His Kingdom by sharing His Good News with all who will listen.  Jesus said only the Father knows the exact time.  I only know that each day brings us one day closer to His return.  Our question is are we ready and are we spreading His word?

Reason for Giving

2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one of you should give just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver.

I’ve heard people say, “I’m not giving them a gift anymore because they never thank me.”  Our question is why do we give to others?  Jesus gave his life for every person who ever walks this earth.  He did not exclude anyone who might not thank Him.  He gave out of pure love.  When we give to anyone, whether it be material or service, it should be because of love and not because we want someone to do or say something.  When we give or do in the love of God it has a lasting effect.  Long after the gift is broken, lost, used up or forgotten the love which gave it will still be alive and remembered.  Let’s try giving to someone who won’t be able to thank us.  Give a gift and sign it “with the love of Christ Jesus.”
