Luke 2:7  And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

I think the inn keeper has been given a wrong judgement.  His inn was full to overflowing.  He didn’t have a room without pushing others who had already paid out of their rooms.  But he did give from what he had.  He had the place he kept his animals.  It wasn’t a great place but it did provide shelter.  Lots of times we thin we have nothing to give.  We think unless we have extra things, extra money, extra space we can’t afford to give.  God promises to provide for us but He also tells us to give generously.  Our question is do we really believe what God says?  Do we trust Him to be true to His word?  I had a friend who was answering the call to give household goods to a family whose home had burned down.  She looked in her linen closet, moved aside a set of new sheets still in their wrapping and pulled out a set of old sheets.  The she heard the gentle voice of God’s Holy Spirit, “You give me from what you would throw away rather than from your best?”  She put aside the old sheets and gave the new ones.  This has stuck with me and now I give of my best.  God always has provided generously and I know He always will.  Let’s pick out something of our best, either new or treasured, and give it to someone who really needs it.
