Luke 22:40. When he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”

There is so much contained in these last few chapters in Matthew (actually in all the chapters in the Holy Bible) but Lent is quickly ending.  We read one of our Lord’s last instructions to His disciples (that includes us) before He faced crucifixion;  “Pray we do not fall into temptation.”  We repeat those words every time we recite “The Lord’s Prayer.”  Our question is do we realize our part in this request?  We cannot expect God to keep us from temptation if we go where temptation is.  It is different for each of us.  Some cannot go to all you can eat buffets and others cannot be around alcohol.  The list goes on and on.  We also cannot expect God’s protection when we read, listen or watch something that would lead us into temptation or dull our senses to it.  If you are privileged to go to a worship service today in preparation for Good Friday tomorrow, whether it be through taking of the communion elements, foot washing or anything else, let us not only pray not to fall into temptation, let us choose not to put ourselves in view or hearing of it.
