Repentant Confession

1 John 1:8. If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Revelation 3:19. All those I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent!

We so emphasize God being love we fail to remember Who He really is and how filthy we are in comparison to Him.  We acknowledge our sins and confess and ask forgiveness but what is our real attitude when we do this?  Do we really feel the guilt of our sin?  Are we really in earnest of our confession?  Are we being in any way flippant in our attitude?  Do we ever shed tears over our sins; tears of sorrow at our disobedience?  Do we confess lightly and then just move on?  Repentance is truly knowing our wrong, feeling the shame of it and determining not to repeat it (with the help of the Holy Spirit).  When we confess let us really humble ourselves before God and ourselves, really acknowledging our filthiness, really bearing the guilt for our sin and really being joyful at God’s willingness to forgive us.
