The Tongue

James 3:8-9 But no human being can subdue the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse people made in Gods image.

Our tongues are amazing. They are not very big but they can do many things. Without them we could not taste, swallow or talk. We use them to make faces. We can use them to move food off of our teeth. Our question is, when we use our tongues to talk, what are we allowing them to say. Many times I tend to let my tongue move and shape words along with my lips before I put my brain and heart into gear. Once the tongue lets out a word it can not be taken back in. Our question is how do we keep our tongue trained for the good rather than the bad that would hurt others? First we must desire to give our tongues over to God to be used for His glory and His purpose. When it becomes our desire we ask God’s Holy Spirit to help us listen to Him before we use the tongue to speak. When we mess up (and we will) we quickly ask God’s forgiveness. We might have to ask the forgiveness from another person as well. The hardest one to forgive is ourselves. Let us remember if God forgives us who are we not to forgive ourselves. Let’s just recommit the use of our tongue to God and move on. May our tongue taste well and as we use it to speak may the words we speak taste well to our God.
