Ephesians 5:18. And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit,

If you check the Greek word used for the word “be” you would find it is in the continual tense. Our correct translation (grammatically) should be “be continually filled by the Spirit.” This is a daily or a multiple times daily necessity. As we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us we must allow more of Him in us. I like to call it spiritual breathing. I exhale the power or love of the Holy Spirit and inhale more in filling. But in order to inhale more of the Spirit I must be sure I have also exhaled (confessed) my sins of commission or omission and inhaled God’s forgiveness. This makes more room for the in-dwelling of His Spirit. When we don’t give out through love and service there is no room within us to take in more of God’s Holy Spirit and reflect more of His love. Our question is are we willing to develop the discipline of practicing these breathing exercises? I was taught as a child anything worth while takes effort and the more worth while it is the more effort it takes. I can’t think of anything more worth while than reflecting the love of God to those around me.
