A New Way of Living

Acts 19:19
Large numbers of those who had practiced magic collected their books and burned them up in the presence of everyone. When the value of the books was added up, it was found to total fifty thousand silver coins.

These books were very expensive and considered treasures. They used them a good bit and basically lived by them. When they came to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior they realized the information in those books and their attachment to them were in conflict with the new life they were called to live. They wanted to repent, turn their backs on their old way of life and live for the glory of God. These converts gave up their money-making sins publicly; and their public and costly repentance was made a great blessing. It was made a blessing through the lives they were now able to live under the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit and it was a blessing in the lives it touched through their public actions. Their friends and families saw they were really serious and committed to following God and they saw the change in their life-style. Our question is do our lives, what we say and how we live, show us to be living for the glory of God or do they show us trying to fit in with cultural expectations?
