Matthew 23:27 “Woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs that look beautiful on the outside but inside are full of the bones of the dead and of everything unclean.

Those are striking words that came from the mouth of Jesus. Before we agree too quickly that the Pharisees of the time deserved them we must honestly look within ourselves. We all wear masks. We have one mask we wear to our jobs. We wear a different mask when we’re with friends. Another masks comes on when we’re at church. At home with our family we sometimes pick one of the other masks and sometimes wear none. We all have this desire to be liked by those we’re with and quite often will try to look and act in a way we think they expect. All these masks are hypocritical. They each portray a little of who we really are, but our real self stays in hiding. God, through His Holy Spirit, wants to remove our masks–all of them and all the way. He wants us to see who we really are compared to Who He is. Then He wants to work in and through us to restore us into a reflection of His Image. Our question is are we willing to see who we really are without our masks and will we allow God to re-mold us into His Image?
