Ruled or Ruler

Genesis 1:26. Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness, so they may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move on the earth.”

God made us to rule over all that exists on earth except for ruling over fellow beings. The only rule over us should be God. But mankind has allowed other things to rule over them. Some are ruled by money. Some are ruled by possessions. Some are ruled by food. There are many things in creation that mankind could covet enough to allow them to rule. Our question is what or who rules over us? What do we most thirst after, seek after? That is our ruler. When God created us He created a void in us that can only be filled with Him. We try to fill that void with all sorts of other things or people but can never get enough to satisfy because they are not God and will not satisfy the void God made. When we seek to be filled with God we will be able to rule over creation rather than be ruled by creation. We must each ask ourselves who or what do we seek? Are we being continually filled with God or continually thirsting for what will not satisfy?
