Matthew 6:24. “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Most of us just think this verse applies to the love for becoming rich. There are many things we can strive to serve. The biggest temptation is trying to serve ourselves. The world teaches us to look out for number one and we consider ourselves to be number one. We cater to our flesh. We feed our fleshly desires more than we feed our spirit. We expand more energy at a sporting event than we expend in church. Many times we seek recreation in lieu of seeking to assemble together with other believers. We think we get more out of recreation than in church. We think we are supposed to get from church because we are number one. We assemble together to praise and worship God, not to get what might be pleasing or approved by us. We are to place God as number one. Our question is who’d owe serve first, God or ourself? Our attitude of who comes first on our minds and hearts will show in our actions.
