Can’t Escape

Psalms 139:7. Where can I go to escape your spirit? Where can I flee to escape your presence?

It is easy for us to live as if God is somewhere in outer space and not paying attention to what we do, don’t do, think or say. We are tuned in to the physical around us and by nature don’t notice or pay attention to the spiritual. God is everywhere, sees everything and hears everything, even our innermost thoughts. We are not aware of His presence for several reasons: we are consumed with ourselves, we are consumed with worldly matters, we don’t believe God, we have not received God’s Son, Jesus, as our Lord and Savior, we have not opened the gift of His Holy Spirit. Our consciousness of God only grows through our obedience to Him, our meditations on His written word(the Holy Bible) and the frequency of our conversations with Him. We become more aware of His presence by practicing His presence. I recommend a little booklet available for free on the Internet. It I’d “Practicing the Presence of God” by Brother Lawrence. Our question is do we want to be aware of God’s presence? Knowing His presence makes it hard for us to be a complainer, door say things hurtful or ignore the needs of others.
