Hebrews 4:12. For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double- edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.

We were teaching a series on the voice of God. As we walked in I knew immediately one of the people had had an experience. Shortly after we started the meeting she blurted out, “I can’t wait until sharing time. I heard God speak tome. I was reading my Bible and God spoke.” This is why the Holy Bible is called the living word and why it is still the best seller. God speaks to us today through the reading and meditation on the scriptures. We can read the same verses many times and those same verses can say different things to us at different times of our lives. This is one way God, through His Holy Spirit speaks to us. Our question is are we willing and expecting to hear Him? We can’t just read quickly then close the book and goon our way. We must first invite Him to speak tours through our reading and then read with an open mind and heart and an attentive ear. Let us always read with Samuel’s attitude, (1 Samuel 3:10) Then the Lord came and stood nearby, calling as he had previously done, “Samuel! Samuel!” Samuel replied, “Speak, for your servant is listening!”
