A New Commandment

John 13:14. “I give you a new commandment-to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

Wow! That’s a lot of love. Jesus gave His life for us because of His love for us. He says we are to love each other in the same way. Giving your life for others isn’t confined to physically dying for another. It means wanting the best for another. It means giving up what we want to do to help another. It means to fellowship with others. It means not thinking critically or judging (even in our own private thoughts) another. We have all experienced jealousy, envy and hurts when someone else gets something we would like to have or gets credit for what we did. That isn’t love. I find it hard to really love in this way but, each time an unloving thought comes into my mind I ask God’s forgiveness and ask His Holy Spirit to help me grow in love for others. Our question is do we want to choose to humble ourselves in the way Jesus did and lay down our life, our self-centered desires and our self-centered desire for credit and approval and praises from fellow people? I’d rather hear Jesus tell me, “we’ll done.” Keep working in and on me, God.
