Adoption

Genesis 1:26. Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness, so they may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move on the earth.”

If we are created in God’s image that means He is our Father. That is incorrect. We lost that image not only when Adam and Eve chose to disobey but also through our own sins. There is only one way we can become a child of God. That way is through adoption. Adoption is through God’s one and only child, Jesus Christ. We can’t just believe Jesus is God’s son. Satan believes and knows that. We must believe IN Jesus. We must believe through His blood we may confess our sin of departing from God through our disobedience and learn to rely on Him as a baby relies on its parent. No one can do this for us. Belonging to a church, doing “good works,” or confessing with our mouths will not bring us into God’s family. It is only through our heart, mind and spirit that this adoption can be sealed. Our question is have we been adopted? Some have trouble with the word “adoption.” I could do a teaching on what Paul meant by “adoption” but that is not the purpose of these devotions. These devotions are for a jump-start for us to study and meditate and allow the Holy Spirit to bring us into the knowledge of what we need when we need it. Let’s just be sure we’ve come to God through Jesus with our hearts, mind and body..
