Our Father

Matthew 6:9. So pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored,

Among the definition of father is, “a man who provides and protects, and the source or originator.” It also means a close relationship. Jesus tells us when we pray to God we are to address Him as our “father.” It is also a word that shows respect. When we do this we acknowledge our close relationship with God. We acknowledge God is the source of our provision and our protection. We acknowledge God as the Originator of all that was, is or will ever be. We also use the word “father” as a word of respect. When we address God as our Father we also acknowledge He is in heaven. Heaven is defined as a state of being eternally in the presence of God and in a state of continual happiness. When we say God is in heaven we speak of Him as being all eternity. It blows my mind that we are allowed to address the One who creates all and has all eternity in His hands as our Father. Let us remember all we mean when we say “our Father.”
