Nahum 1:7. The Lord is good indeed, he is a fortress in time of distress, and he protects those who seek refuge in him.

Some consider the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is stressful or depressing. Their eyes and hearts are on the world. They think they should have the advertised products they see. They think they must give a lot of expensive gifts. They are bombarded with give here and give there. The best gift we can give someone is the gift of our time. This time we give should be with our full attention to the person we are giving it to. Our question is not what we are giving to the people around us. Our question is what are we giving to Jesus? Are we so busy in this season that we have shortened our prayer, meditation and/or Bible study time? Are we so busy shopping or going to parties that we have no time to visit the sick? Let us remember our priorities while we give and fellowship with those around us.

Moving On

1 John 2:15-16
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, because all that is in the world (the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced by material possessions) is not from the Father, but is from the world.

We have several friends who are in the process of moving. They didn’t realize how many possessions the have accumulated over the years. Sorting through them and, along choices is difficult. Their material possessions bring memories. Should they keep, gift or trash? God is moving them on and they must downsize. They are discovering where their desires are laid. Letting go of possessions that have become dear to us is hard. Leaving the familiar is hard. Their love for God is stronger than their love for old friends or possessions and each is pushing forward to leave the familiar and walk with God into a new and yet unknown adventure. They are seeing they were but temporary stewards of material possessions but the things of God are theirs for all eternity. Our question is are we ready to give up all we have and know to follow God wherever He might lead us?

Love as Much

John 15:9-10. “Just as the Father has loved me, I have also loved you; remain in my love. If you obey my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Fathers commandments and remain in his love.

Wow! Jesus loves us in the same way Father God loves Him. Jesus remanded n the Father,s love while on this earth by obeying the Father’s commandments. He expects no less from us but to obey His commandments. To do this we must know His commandments through study of the Bible. To be able to obey them we must continually be filled with His Holy Spirit. In and of ourselves it is impossible to obey His commandments because we are sinful beings. Let us choose to remain in His love through study, devotion, confession, continual in-filling of His Holy Spirit and obedience.

Ecclesiastes 2:11. Yet when I reflected on everything I had accomplished and on all the effort that I had expended to accomplish it, I concluded: “All these achievements and possessions are ultimately profitless-like chasing the wind! There is nothing gained from them on earth.”

We are in the season of buying. Stores have increased their hours and advertising. We’re told we need all sorts if things and should be giving all sorts of things. Many of us are already surrounded by too many possessions. Yet when we look at all we have accomplished to accumulate where are we? Have any of these things brought glory to God or brought us closer to God? There is nothing wrong with giving things to others but let us be sure we give them the best and everlasting thing. Let’s pass on to others the way to receive God’s gift of forgiveness and eternal life with Him.

Waiting by Going

Psalms 33:20. We wait for the Lord; he is our deliverer and shield.

One of the definitions of or “wait” is to “stand in readiness.” Our question is are we standing in readiness for the return of our Lord Jesus? We can’ test and in readiness by standing still. We must be following the last command of Jesus before He returned to the Father. Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, This is not a command just for professional clergy. This is a command for each and every believer. The call starts at home with our families and then extends to our friends and neighbors. As we move out it extends to the line at the stores we shop. Our question is are we actively about making new disciples?

Sin is Sin

Psalms 32:5. Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said, “I will confess my rebellious acts to the Lord.”
And then you forgave my sins.

It’s hard for us to admit when we are wrong. It’s even harder for us to admit something we said, thought or did is a sin. We use the words “goof,” “little lie,” and others instead of the word “sin.” Sin is anything that separates us from God. God says all we think, say and do should be in love and bring Him glory. We must learn to call sin sin and admit it to ourselves so we can confess it to God and be forgiven. Sometimes we’ll need to make restitution to someone. It may be we only need to say we’re sorry and ask for their forgiveness. It might require more to make restitution. Let’s be honest with ourselves, God and others. Let”s be quick to admit sin and move on in our walk with God.

In Control

Jeremiah 10:23. Lord, we know that people do not control their own destiny. It is not in their power to determine what will happen to them.

We think we are in control. We like to be in control. Sometimes not only in control of what effects us personally but also in control of others. We even are trying to find ways to control our weather through cloud seeding and other ways. In reality we aren’t in control of most everything. One thing we can control are the words we allow to come out of our mouths. We can allow words that would hurt, demean, discourage or accuse another or we can choose words that would heal, lift up, encourage or help others. Our question is what words will we choose to come out of our mouths this day?

Seeking Advice

John 6:68. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.

When we face difficulties and aren’t sure what to do, it’s amazing how many people we will go to and seek advice. So often we don’t think about going to God until things get desperate. When we’re making the transition from teenager to adult we struggle on our own or seek out those of the same age. We don’t want the advice from older people. We think they really don’t understand. As we age we don’t want to admit we don’t have all the answers. We often think God is too busy for our problems. We must remember God walked this earth in His Son, Jesus, Who experienced all we face on this earth. While walking on this earth He spent many long hours talking with His Father. We are to follow Jesus and talk things over with our Father, God.

Undeserving Praise

Luke 17:10. So you too, when you have done everything you were commanded to do, should say, We are slaves undeserving of special praise; we have only done what was our duty. ”

Some have left churches because they didn’t think they were appreciated or thanked enough for what they did. It is nice to feel appreciated or be thanked but that should not be our incentive for our actions. We are told in the scriptures to do all, words and deeds, for the glory of God. There is nothing wrong in thanking people. Thanks is an encouragement to keep going. The bottom line is motivation. Are we doing things to look good or smart or are we allowing God to work through us for His glory? We are to realize His joy in us when we walk in submission and obedience to our God.

2 Corinthians 10:18. For it is not the person who commends himself who is approved, but the person the Lord commends.

It is natural for sinners to take credit for what we do. Sometimes we even try to take credit for what others do. We want others to know how smart, talented and good we are. As we grow spiritually we realize no good can come from us. God only can come through us from God. This is why in the about me section of this blog readers are encouraged to take, use or copy anything that can be used for the glory of God. I need nor can I receive credit for Incan only ass on what God gives me. Comments serve to confirm I hear correctly. When we learn to do all for the glory of God rather than our own glory we will start to flow as the one body, the body and bride of Christ. Let’s learn to pass credit and praises to God through Whom all things are created and made.
