Lamp Oil

Matthew 25:8-12. The foolish ones said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out. No, they replied. There wont be enough for you and for us. Go instead to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves. But while they had gone to buy it, the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding banquet. Then the door was shut. Later, the other virgins came too, saying, Lord, lord! Let us in! But he replied, I tell you the truth, I do not know you!

When we first meet God through His Son, Jesus, we are very excited. Our faces glow with the love we feel. We study the Bible to learn all we can about Him. We go to church every tie the door is open. Gradually our enthusiasm fades. We are not into the Bible as much. We are not as consistent in our attendance to church services. Our face doesn’t glow as much. We don’t talk about Him or to Him as much. Like the unwise verging we fail to keep enough oiling our lamps. Our oil is God’s Holy Spirit. We can’t depend on a onetime filling of His Spirit. We need continual filling. Our question is do we take the time each morning (and throughout the day when necessary) to ask for refilling? Let’s not run out of the oil of God’s Holy Spirit let’s keep our lamps shining brightly for all to see our God.
