Ready for the New

2 Corinthians 5:17. So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away – look, what is new has come!

Our homes may be cleaner. We may have asked God to cleanse His home within us. The old year is ending. The new year is about to begin. We are no longer to look back with regrets at what was done or not done. We are to look forward in expectation to see what God will do in and through us in the new year. He may continue to use us in the same way or He may encourage us to move into new directions. Instead of making resolutions which will probably fall by the wayside as the year progresses let us resolve to be willing to allow God’s Holy Spirit to flow in and through us in any way He chooses.

Without Limits

Luke 17:4. Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, I repent, you must forgive him.”

How many times have we said or thought “when will they ever learn?” Our patience runs out when people repeat the same words or actions that hurt us over and over. We tend to build up resentment or bitterness and an unforgiving spirit. We justify our lack of forgiveness by their repetition. As we read yesterday our forgiveness from God is attached to our willingness to forgive others. Today we read we are to have no end to our forgiveness of others. God has no end of His forgiveness of us. If you’re like me you’ve told God many times, “I blew it again, God. Please forgive me.” God’s response to me has always been, “Blew what again. When I forgive it is remembered no longer.” We may have trouble forgetting what someone has said or done to hurt us but when we forgive it means we no longer hold it against them. God continually gives us another opportunity. How much more should we do so for others?

Walking in Forgivness

Mark 11:25. Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your sins.

Let’s re-read this verse. It says if we have “anything” against “anyone” we must forgive. We are told so many times God loves all and Jesus died for all. We are to love all. This is not an emotional, warm fuzzy love but a love of choice of wanting God’s best for all. No one is to be excluded. It is so easy to want someone who has hurt us together the same treatment back. That isn’t love. God doesn’t hold back love from us when we hurt Him through our sins and disobedience. He continues to reach out to us in love bringing His best for us into our lives. Re-read the last art of the verse; “forgive so that your Father will also forgive you your sins.” Our forgiveness is given in the same way, timing and amount we forgive others. If this doesn’t motivate us to forgive, give resentments, bitterness and anger nothing will. Let us prepare for a new year walking continually in the love of God through total forgiveness of all.

Clean Windows

1 John 1:7. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

When the house is clean it is brighter and has more light. More light reflects off of clean things. When we confess the filth of our sins the blood Jesus shed for them cleanses them and we can reflect more of His light. As windows must be cleaned often teepee light coming in,we must confess often to keep His light shining in and through us. His light shining in us allows us to see His love for us. It also shows us how He wants to use us for His glory His light shining through us allows others to see Him through our words and actions. Our question is are we willing to allow Him to “wash our widows” everyday and, if you’re like me,throughout each day? Let’s keep His light shining.

Luke 12:19. And I will say to myself, “You have plenty of goods stored up for many years; relax, eat, drink, celebrate!

During the week between Christmas and New Years we sort through our house. We put some things in a stack to be given away, some to be tossed and some to be put in a pace where they car used. As we do this we thank God for all we have. We consider if we haven’t used something the past year someone see might be able to put it to use. Basically we are putting our physical house in order. Also during this time we reflect on our spiritual house. We ask God’s Holy Spirit to show us what needs cleansing in our physical bodies our minds and our hearts. We want to start the New Year clean inside and out.

Pushing Forward

Philippians 3:13. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead,

This is the day after all the fun, excitement and celebration of Christmas. Fir some people it cam be a depressed day. Some had perceived visions of what Christmas Day would be like and were disappointed. Paul had the right mind-set. What is past is past. Disappoints, hurts and sins are to be put under the blood of Jesus and thought of no more. God didn’t put eyes in the back of our heads. He put our eyes in front to enable us to look forward. We are to reach out to the unknown time ahead looking to God through His Holy Spirit as our GPS. Let us look forward by listening and looking to our God.

A Blessed Christmas

Luke 2:20. So the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen; everything was just as they had been told.

Blessed and Merry Christmas. May we all be surrounded by love. Even if you’re alone I pray you will know, believe and feel the love of God which always surrounds each of His children. Is you have young children have them join you in singing Happy Birthday to Jesus. Pray together thank god for making His love real to us. Reach out to others in God,s love. Glorify and praise God as the shepherds did for Christ has come and He will return.

Christmas Eve

Luke 2:7. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

It’s Christmas Eve. Some celebrate tonight by going to a candlelight service, some gather together and open gifts. On the Eve of the birth of the coming of God’s Son we read there was no room for His mother. She had to give birth admits animals. Our question this day is how much room do we give Jesus in our lives? Do we only think about Him during Christmas and Easter? Maybe we think about Him a few other Sundays when there’ soothing else we want to do. We need to give Him all the room in our lives, giving Him first place in our heart, thoughts and actions. When we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, we are born anew in the spirit and image of God. This birth a something that should be celebrated every day. May Jesus be received and celebrated in each of us throughout each and every day. Have a blessed Christmas Eve.

Nothing Impossible

Luke 1:37. For nothing will be impossible with God.”

When the angle told Mary about her cousin, Elizabeth, being 6 months pregnant, Mary was amazed. By normal physical abilities that was impossible due to her advanced age. The bagel said nothing “will be” impossible with God. We must notice the tense of the verb, “will be.” There is no ending to that tense. The angel could have said “will ever be” just as well. This is a promise for all eternity. Sometimes we face situations that appear impossible to us. We may become depressed or worried. Some even give up completely. When we feel or think those ways we are not believing God and His promise. We must also look at the word “with.” The angel didn’t say “for God,” but “with God.” God chooses to work “with” us, not “for” us. Our question is are we willing to listen and obey God so we can work together? Since we are “joint heirs” with Jesus, God’s Son’ whose coming we are celebrating, we share with Him not only the blessings of a God, but we also share in His work.

Glory Through Humility

Luke 1:30. So the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God!

How wonderful to be favored with God. We don’t know much about Mary. We do know she was humble and quietly raised God’s Son, keeping all the miracles she experienced and say in her heart. Our question is how can we find favor with God? We find favor through His Son by loving and serving Him. Mary took no credit for being the mother of God’s Son. She showed humility before God and mankind. We tend to show some humility when things don’t seem to be going right for us. We are quick to give credit for wrong to others. When things are going good we are even quicker to take credit for ourself. Let us remember all things concerning believers first pass through God’s hands and so we are to give glory to God in and through all things

Glory to God when things are great, no self credit
